Great Delta Bear Affair 2013

The Delta Artists Association will showcase our artwork in a booth at Rolling Fork's Great Delta Bear Affair on Saturday, October 26th!  Come for the arts, music, magic, tours, and fireworks!

I will also have two paintings in the silent auction at the Great Delta Bear Affair's Patrons' Party the same weekend.

What does Roosevelt, the teddy bear, and Mississippi have to do with each other? Take a look at the story to learn what we're celebrating: The Birth of the Teddy Bear.

Delta Hot Tamale Festival

Greenville's second annual Delta Hot Tamale Festival is coming up on October 17-20, 2013!  Be sure to look for local artists' booths at the festival.  I'll have some artwork on display and for purchase along with other artists in the Delta Artists Association's booth. Come see art, eat hot tamales, and listen to great music.

Vintage

A surprised Kay Shropshire and judge David Taylor
My painting Vintage took second place in the Delta Artists Association Members Show "Dog Days of Summer: Delta Artists Along Deer Creek" that opened July 25 at The Leland Progress in Leland, MS. As you can tell in the photo, I was VERY surprised.... and thrilled!

Congratulations to all our winners & participants in this outstanding show! A big "Thanks" goes out to our judge, Greenwood artist David Taylor who did a great job of judging this show plus giving out the awards and then he went on to explain why he chose each piece. That alone is reward enough for an artist to know the things they "did right" in their work.

It was a pleasure to help our judge David Taylor hand out awards.  Here's Juanita Gray receiving the People's Choice ribbon for her oil painting, Deer Creek. We had great attendance for the reception and awards.

DAA Workshop with Dot Courson

Dot Courson returned once again to lead a wonderful workshop in oil painting. Delta Artist Association members created some beautiful landscapes this week, which may be viewed in an exhibit at The Leland Progress later in July.  Here's a progress and a finished picture of my painting "Cotton Field Sentinel", which I started at the workshop.

Paint Day at Lake Washington

Danette and Kenneth Middleton graciously loaned us their home and grounds for the day. Iris, Agnes, Billye, Melanie, and I worked with oils, watercolor, and pastels while Danette gardened! Vicky and Lisa came by to take photos for future paintings. It was a beautiful day to be outside!

Indian Bayou Festival

Took some pictures at the Indian Bayou Arts Festival, so here's a painting of some artisans selling their craft.  The festival takes place in September across from the B.B. King Museum and The Blue Biscuit along the banks of Indian Bayou in Downtown Indianola, Mississippi.  The man in the red shirt is Lee Washington. He was selling his "Cotton Picking" metal sculptures, three of said pieces grace my home!

I was also a demonstration artist with the Delta Artists Association booth for those who passed by, had questions, and wanted to see an artist in action.  I'm working on the painting posted here.

Monthly Paint Day

The Delta Artists Association had a great activity going on during the monthly Paint Day.  Kathy Smith and Ann Laird Jones led a mini-workshop in painting on clay with under-glazes! For artists who paint but don't necessarily work with clay, it gave us some laid-back, no-pressure exposure to a different medium. It was great fun!

It is a pleasure to recognize great talent in local artists.  Here I am as President of the Delta Artists Association giving awards to fellow artists during the 2012 DAA Member Show.  So much talent!
